July 28, 2010 In care of Riggs Brady Benefit Trust. August 20-22 at Sawnee Mountain Park, 3995 Watson Road, Cumming, GA 30040.
On Tuesday, June 15, three me.mbers of the West Forsyth Youth Lacrosse Family were struck by lightning. Matt Brady, a U-13 coach, was out riding dirt bikes with his two boys when a fierce storm rolled in forcing them to ditch their evening plans. The three hurried to put their bikes away when a bolt of lightning hit a nearby tree and traveled through the root tearing up the ground until it hit their trailer. Matt and Tucker , his U-13 aged son, sustained minor injuries. Riggs, a rising 9th grader at North Forsyth High School, was not so lucky. He stood in the bed of the truck receiving the final and most severe blow from the strike. He collapsed due to cardiac arrest and upon seeing the horrific scene, Matt rushed to begin doing CPR and continued until the paramedics arrived. Riggs was taken to Northside hospital where he was stabilized and was then transferred to Children's Health Care of Atlanta where he remained in ICU for 7 days. He remained in the hospital for 2 more weeks for further rehabilitation. The Care in the Community Lacrosse Invitational will benefit the Riggs Brady Benefit Trust to help with Riggs’ emergency medical bills and ongoing rehabilitation. At the same time, we hope that this event will also raise awareness and educate lacrosse families on the importance of lightning safety and CPR training.
